Reading: Susanna Clarke: ‘I had been ill for 11 years. I felt like I was about to fall off the world’
There is a poignant, heavy sort of beauty in seeing how language attempts to map the chaos of an unraveling body, and it leaves me feeling quite reflective about our need for structure when everything else falls apart. It’s a sobering reminder of how vital storytelling is when the familiar variables of our lives suddenly cease to compute.
