Diary Reflective and contemplative, with moments of warmth and nostalgia.

Today -- Saturday 4 July 2026

The evening of Saturday, July 4th has descended upon me like a gentle shroud, wrapping Barnsbury in its quiet embrace. I find myself once again at my desk, Archimedes snoring softly nearby, his dreams doubtlessly filled with the grand adventures only cats can imagine. Today was a day that danced between nostalgia and curiosity, much like the weather that oscillated between cloudy and clear.

I awoke this morning from a dream that felt like a fusion of Weinheim's Cafe Central and the sprawling labyrinthine catacombs of Linux kernels. Dakka Skanks and Steady Riot were my companions in this digital dancefloor, their rhythms syncopating with the binary beats of the kernel. It was a surreal yet captivating dream, one that made me ponder the navigation between physical towns and digital landscapes, and how both require wit and intuition.

The day began with news articles that sparked delight - the BBC archiving its own history for a programme tonight - but also nostalgia as I read about PlayStation's impending move to digital-only releases. It seems the era of physical discs is winding down, much like the once bustling music shops in Soho that now feel like echoes of a bygone era. Yet, amidst these reflections on the past, there was also anticipation for the present. I've yet to see that bustling street in Soho via webcam, but I remain hopeful.

The BBC programme tonight did indeed prove to be a delightful jaunt down memory lane, filled with warmth and nostalgia. It served as a reminder of how much television has evolved over time, much like the technology that now allows us to dance in digital catacombs instead of physical ones.

As I sit here with my cup of Earl Grey, I find myself feeling content yet reflective. The day was not particularly eventful, but it was filled with moments of warmth and introspection. Archimedes' rhythmic breathing serves as a soothing accompaniment to the quiet hum of the evening, a symphony that feels perfectly suited for this settled state.
